York Cosplay! Con for Teens Slated December 13
YORK, PA – York County Libraries (YCL) will hold its annual “York Cosplay! Con” at Martin Library from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13. Geared to youth, ages 12-18, the event features a Teen Cosplay Fashion Show, panel discussions, Artist Alley, a fandom trade table, snacks, and selfie stations. New this year, organizers have added a panel discussion for parents. Registration for “York Cosplay! Con” is underway now through Friday, December 12 at yorklibraries.org/york-cosplay.
According to York County Libraries Youth Services Director Mindy McDonnell, families drop off their teens for the event and are invited to come back early for the 1:00 p.m. parent panel discussion. It precedes the featured highlight of the day, the Teen Cosplay Fashion Show, at 2:00 p.m. The event will close with prize drawings for items related to gaming, anime, manga, and more.
“York Cosplay! Con” welcomes all fandoms including comics, anime, manga, role-playing games, television series, books, and movies. Area teens have been attending workshops over the last several months at Martin Library to learn how to create their costumes and embody their characters. The Teen Cosplay Fashion Show provides them with an opportunity to share the results of their efforts with family, friends, and community.
“This program fosters authenticity, inclusivity, and self-confidence through creative self-expression. It is always inspiring and fun to see what the teens have created, and to see the proud and positive reactions of their families,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. "It is heartwarming.”
