York College to Hold Ribbon-Cutting for Major Northside Commons Expansion as

Student Body and Campus Footprint Continue to Grow

YORK, Pa.

— York College of Pennsylvania will officially celebrate the major expansion of our

Northside Commons residence hall with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, Aug.

13, at 12:00 p.m. Media members and members of the campus community are invited to gather

in front of the brand-new wing. Tours will also be available.

Northside Commons’ new wing highlights a momentum-building moment for York College. At a

time when many higher education institutions across the country are consolidating operations,

York College is expanding its physical footprint to support a growing student body.

The new wing adds more than 200 beds to Northside Commons, a residence hall that has

served as a center for campus connection since 2011. Students will move into the

state-of-the-art facility next Thursday, August 20, as part of the college’s largest incoming class

in six years.

“York College is actively investing in our future and leaning into growth,

” said York College

President Thomas Burns, Ph.D.

“This brand-new wing of Northside Commons serves as

physical proof of our forward momentum. We are expanding because students and families

across the country recognize the value of a York College education. This modern space gives

our students high-quality, vibrant environments where they can build community, live

comfortably, and thrive both personally and academically.

The expanded wing features modern amenities designed around direct student input. Key

features include updated furniture, high-speed secure Wi-Fi, modern climate control, and

enhanced hang-out areas. New outdoor recreational spaces will be available this fall. The successful and on-time completion of the project was made possible through a close

partnership with local firm Stewart & Tate Construction.

Media members attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday will have the opportunity to

get photos and video of the newly completed wing and speak with college leadership regarding

the institution’s continued growth.

If possible, please RSVP to Director of Communications Julie Loeper if you plan to attend.
