York College Partners with York Suburban School District to Provide Pool
Access During High School Renovations
YORK, Pa.
— York College of Pennsylvania and the York Suburban School District are proud to
announce a continued partnership that will allow the York Suburban High School swim team to
train and compete at the College’s Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center pool during the
2025–26 academic year.
The collaboration began during the 2024–25 season as York Suburban encountered a structural
issue with its high school pool. Now, with the planning of a new pool underway as part of a high
school renovation project, York College has once again opened its doors to support the
student-athletes of York Suburban.
The arrangement allows York Suburban’s team to utilize the Grumbacher pool for practices and
meets, with scheduling carefully coordinated to avoid conflicts with York College’s own swim
programs. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to community support and student
development.
“We’re pleased to welcome the York Suburban swim team back to our campus,
” said Dr.
Thomas Burns, President of York College of Pennsylvania.
“At York College, we believe that
strong communities are built through collaboration, and we’re proud to play a role in supporting
our local schools during this exciting period of growth.
”
“York College of Pennsylvania has been a tremendous support to our swimming program over
the years, stepping in when our pool was unavailable and offering access during other
short-term needs,
” Dr. Brian Ellis, Principal of York Suburban High School, said.
“Thispartnership not only strengthens our swim program while we build a new pool, but also supports
York Suburban's broader mission of providing meaningful athletic and academic collegiate
experiences for our students.
”
The Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the home
for York College's NCAA Division III swim teams. The College’s athletics department has
worked closely with York Suburban to ensure a smooth scheduling process that maintains the
integrity of both programs.
“As the District proceeds with its high school renovation project and addition of a new pool, this
agreement offers our swimmers an incredible place to train and compete,
” Dr. Scott Krauser,
York Suburban School District Superintendent of Schools said.
“It also gives our school
community another reason to visit YCP's campus. It's a win-win and a great example of how
collaboration between educational institutions can create meaningful opportunities for the
community as a whole.
”
Paul Saikia, Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation at York College, echoed the pride in
this continued partnership.
“We’re proud to support another athletic program in our community,
especially one that invests so deeply in the development of young athletes,
” said Saikia.
“Opportunities like this not only strengthen ties between institutions but also show
student-athletes what’s possible when we work together to prioritize youth sports and
education.
”
This partnership underscores York College’s ongoing mission to engage meaningfully with the
local community while supporting student excellence both on and off the field, or in this case, in
the pool.
