Ivy Patterson grew up locally in a military family. In 2013 she started attending Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania’s Project Beacon, weekend retreats for the children of military personnel and veterans. For the first time she met and befriended kids with similar military backgrounds. Now an adult, Ivy works as a counselor for both Project Beacon and Club Lily (overnight camps for adults with disabilities). Reflecting on Project Beacon, Ivy states, “I enjoyed camp (Project Beacon) the most for it bringing together random strangers that immediately got along and created lifelong bonds.”
Going from counseling at Project Beacon to counseling at Club Lily was challenging, but Ivy soon learned she had a natural ability, “The work I get to do at Club Lily is just really fulfilling, every interaction I get with a camper feels meaningful.” Ivy is grateful for childhood and now adult opportunities provided by Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania.
Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania relies on donor funding to impact children and adults with disabilities. Please remember Ivy on Giving Tuesday, December 3. You can help ensure children and adults with disabilities have the programs they need to succeed. Follow the link here to give today.
