Confronting Racism Coalition Receives Gateway to Equity Award

Home › Membership

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) York, PA Branch presented the Confronting Racism Coalition (CRC) with the Gateway to Equity Award earlier this year. AAUW PA established the Gateway to Equity Award to recognize an individual, group, organization, or business that has demonstrated, through action and philosophy, a commitment to promoting equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, or research.

The CRC’s mission is to create sustainable change by breaking down systemic racial barriers and promoting healing, equity, and inclusion for all.  Its vision is for York County to be a place where differences are valued and equity prevails. The AAUW York branch first began attending CRC meetings a couple of years ago. “Rita Meisendelder and I were serving as co-chairs of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and we were looking for local resources,” shares Barbara Woodmansee. “We not only found resources, but also great relationships with the CRC, and we are pleased to present them with this award.”

The AAUW York PA Branch is a non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. Its vision is equity for all. AAUW offers scholarships for women and girls who wish to pursue their educational goals.

“As a grassroots organization, the CRC is committed to building meaningful relationships that make our community stronger,” notes CRC Board Member, Dr. Larry Walthour. “It’s partnerships like those with the AAUW that allow us to advance our values of personal growth, respect, and trust. We encourage the greater York County community to reach out to both organizations to see how we can build a stronger community together.”
