Martin Library to Host Fifth Annual Block Party
YORK, PA – The Martin Library Block Party and SummerQuest Kickoff will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31. The free event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities and the opportunity to register for the York County Libraries SummerQuest program. Martin Library is located at 159E. Market Street in York.
“It is hard to believe that this is already our Fifth Annual Block Party. Our staff connects with other community organizations that provide services to families, and we create an afternoon of fun for all,” says Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson. “Last year, over 700 community members of all ages turned out for the block party, and we hope just as many or even more attend this year!”
The community event is packed with entertainment and activities. The Temple Guard and Positive Energy Arts will perform, as well as three teen bands from the School of Rock York. In addition, attendees can see a fire truck and mini-excavator up close, get temporary tattoos and caricature drawings, meet therapy dogs, play supersized games and more. Free box lunches will be provided to children while supplies last, and food trucks will be available for anyone interested in purchasing something to eat.
There will also be time to sign up for a free library card and register for this year’s "Unearth A Story™” SummerQuest and Get Outdoors (GO) York! program. According to Edmondson, York County Libraries’ reading and activity challenge is a fun way for kids, teens, and adults to stay active and engaged all summer. There is no cost to join.
“Martin Library’s Block Party has become a perennial favorite,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Community members embrace coming together at the library for a time of celebration, music, games, and of course, great books and literacy!”
Thanks to the support of The Maple Press Company as the Presenting Sponsor, the festivities are free to attend. MartinLibrary is located at 159 E. Market Street in York. There is on-street parking near the library, and metered spots are free on Sundays. Anyone with questions about the block party should call the library at 717-846-5300.
Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. It is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members. Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
