SummerQuest Program Starts June 1 at York County Libraries
The annual York County Libraries "Adventure Begins at Your Library” SummerQuest program starts Saturday, June 1 at library locations countywide. Early registration is underway now for the free program which is geared to children and teens from birth to 18. SummerQuest encourages youth to read, attend library events, and explore nature through GO York!
"As school winds down, families are gearing up for summer fun," says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. "The library opens the door to a summer packed with fun that doesn’t overextend the budget. Libraries countywide have planned a variety of entertainment, crafts, and other activities that come in at the right price point, free."
According to York County Libraries Youth Services Director Mindy McDonnell, participants are encouraged to log 800 minutes of reading or activity time over the summer months. “Listening to books in the car counts. Reading books at the pool counts. Anywhere a participant chooses to read, that counts,” says McDonnell. "Participating in activities such as library programs, walking the brand new StoryWalk® at Springettsbury Township Park, and hiking the GO York trails count, too."
Registration at library locations and the first day to pick up registration packets is Saturday, June 1 at 12 YCL locations. Members at Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock are invited to join the program at any of the other 12 library locations while their library is closed for repairs this summer.
Many local businesses throughout the county donate prize incentives to encourage York County youth to keep reading and stay active over the summer months. SummerQuest program is provided at no cost to participants.
"There's a new twist this year. SummerQuest is not just for children and teens," says Lambert. "Adults can join the new 'Library Adventure' which encourages them to visit our different library locations."
