JUNIOR COUNCIL PERSONS SWORN IN FOR BOROUGH OF HANOVER

On October 23, 2024 at the Borough of Hanover monthly meeting of the Borough Council, high school juniors Noah Chronister and Alexis Day were sworn in as Junior Council Persons for the 2024-2025 academic year. Appointment to the position involved an application and interview process and an introduction to the Council earlier in the month, in addition to the official ceremony. Council Member Dr. Barbara Rupp commended the candidates for their academic and extracurricular achievements, noting that she is confident they will gain valuable experience through their participation in the program.

Since 1999 the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs’ Junior Council Person (JCP) Program has provided youth in the community with the opportunity to engage in borough government and to develop leadership skills. The program allows Borough officials to serve as mentors to students who will be future leaders in their communities. The JCP Program gives high school and college students the opportunity to learn critical skills including team building and collaboration, public speaking, public engagement, budgeting, and running effective meetings. JCP participants attend public meetings and may interact in discussion, but they do not have the right to vote and do not attend Council executive sessions.

Noah Chronister is a junior at Hanover High School. He is Class President and is involved in Student Council, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Key Club. He is considering studying mechanical engineering or architecture. Alexis Day is a junior in Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School. She is involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Debate Team and Peer Leadership. Alexis volunteers with UPMC pediatric rehab and is considering a career in either law or medicine.
