Description
Workforce development is one of the primary challenges facing York County businesses. In order to satisfy this need, the Office of Workforce Development (OWD) has developed Industry Specific Workforce Forums. These Forums will provide valuable insight from local companies regarding issues they are facing in regard to workforce development. The data collected through this process will be acted upon by Economic Alliance staff and shared with appropriate workforce providers and community partners in order to address the needs of local employers. The goal of these Forums is to bridge the gap between employers, workforce providers and community partners to form a sustainable workforce for York County.
During the Spring 2016 sessions, the York County Economic Alliance will partner with the York County Community Foundation's Embracing Aging initiative. We recognize the growth of an aging population in the County and the opportunities that exist because of this demographic trend.
As the baby boomer generation prepares for retirement, many employers are concerned with skill gaps in the pipeline of the future workforce. We see significant opportunities in embracing the aging population to support the advancement of the workforce pipeline.
We are also encouraged by the exciting advancements throughout the United States for age inclusive thinking related to employment and the idea of an "Encore Career."
We are excited to work with employers to determine what will fit the demands in York County.
Participation in the Workforce Forums is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in participating or would like additional information, please contact Ellie Lamison via email if interested.
