Each year, Downtown Inc recognizes businesses, organizations and individuals who have made a difference in Downtown York through their commitments of time, advocacy and resources at the Downtown First Awards.

Award Categories:
- Downtown Revitalization presented by Redevelopment Authority of York City–– awarded to a business/nonprofit/individual who rehabs a project or a merchant who revitalizes a space.
- Historically Edgy Destination presented by Explore York– given to a retail business, individual or initiative that actively promotes Downtown York as a vibrant destination and celebrates the unique character of Downtown.
- Downtown Champion – open to an outstanding individual, business or organization who has been a great ambassador for York
- Flavors of Downtown – recognizing restaurant or eatery
- Cultural Catalyst – retailer, gallery, artist, musician, or cultural event that inspires creativity and growth
- Collaborative Impact Award – For an organization, small business, or downtown event that has driven meaningful change through collaboration with merchants & nonprofit organizations
- Small Business, Big Impact Award – Reflects the significant impact a micro-business can have on the local culture and community.
- Better York Appell Beautification Award (presented by Better York)
