York College Welcomes One of Its Largest and Most Diverse Classes in Recent Years

York College of Pennsylvania is excited to welcome more than 800 first-year students and nearly two hundred transfer students this fall.  The incoming Class of 2028 is among the largest in the last five years. This vibrant group of learners embodies the spirit of academic excellence and community engagement, and they are set to enrich our campus and the local York community.

This year, York College received just over 8,000 applications for admission, a 25 percent increase over previous years and its highest number since 2018.  The growth directly reflects York College’s high-quality academic programs and commitment to affordability.

“Our new students chose York College because they recognized the value of an exceptional educational experience at a cost far lower than many other private and public institutions,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management Brian Hazlett.

The Class of 2028 stands out as an exceptionally diverse and academically accomplished group, bringing unparalleled experiences and perspectives that enrich our college community. Students hail from as far as Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Wisconsin, and Missouri.  International students come from the Philippines, India, Nepal, U.A.E., and Kenya. Notably, 18 percent of the incoming students identify as first-generation college students, a population that has grown significantly over the past several years. Approximately 33 percent of students belong to underrepresented populations (excluding white and race-unknown categories).

Academically, our new students selected majors from 68 areas, with popular programs including Nursing, Psychology, Sports Management, Mechanical Engineering, and Criminal Justice.

York College’s state-of-the-art facilities, innovative technology, vast academic resources, and exceptional faculty will provide these students with opportunities for growth and success. From cutting-edge research projects with our faculty to community-based initiatives, incoming students will have a broad array of pathways to explore and maximize their potential at York College.
