York College Expands Tuition Discounts for Commonwealth Employees, Families
York, Pa.
— York College of Pennsylvania is deepening its commitment to making higher
education accessible and affordable for Pennsylvania families by expanding tuition discounts for
Commonwealth employees and their dependents.
In 2024, York College became the first higher education institution to offer a tuition discount to
Commonwealth employees. Building on that initiative, the College has now added a new tuition
discount of $6,000 per year for dependents enrolled full-time in a four-year degree program.
York College also continues to provide a 15 percent discount on tuition for graduate and
professional programs to eligible Commonwealth employees.
“York College is committed to making higher education accessible and attainable for
Pennsylvania families. By partnering with the Commonwealth to provide these tuition discounts,
we are proud to support the educational aspirations of employees and their dependents while
helping to prepare the next generation of leaders who will strengthen our communities and our
state,
” said York College President Dr. Thomas Burns.
The announcement was made in partnership with the Pennsylvania Office of Administration and
aligns with Gov. Josh Shapiro’s broader efforts to strengthen recruitment and retention of
high-performing employees across state agencies. By offering education benefits that extend to
both employees and their families, the Commonwealth is working with institutions like York
College to ensure that public service careers remain attractive, competitive, and rewarding.
“Access to education empowers our workforce to grow, innovate, and lead with excellence.
We’re proud to offer benefits that support our employees and their families in every area of their
lives, including opportunities to pursue higher education,
” said Secretary of Administration Neil
Weaver.
“Offering competitive benefits helps us attract and retain talented individuals by
supporting their ongoing development and growth. We appreciate the support of York College of
Pennsylvania and Penn State Harrisburg in helping us build a more skilled and forward-thinking
workforce that will drive our Commonwealth to new heights.
”Education benefits for employees are provided at no cost to the Commonwealth.
Ultimately, these tuition discounts reflect York College’s mission of preparing students for
purposeful careers and meaningful lives. By extending these opportunities to Commonwealth
families, the College is ensuring that more students have the resources they need to pursue
their degrees, achieve their goals, and make a lasting impact in Pennsylvania and beyond.
