York College, DreamWrights, and York Country Day School Partner to Expand Arts
Education and Community Engagement
The curtain is rising on a new collaboration aimed at making York County an even more vibrant
place to learn, create, and connect. York College of Pennsylvania has partnered with
DreamWrights Center for Community Arts and York Country Day School to expand arts
education, fuel creative collaboration, and engage the community through the power of the arts.
The agreement formalizes a shared commitment among the three organizations to expand
access to high-quality performing and visual arts, create hands-on learning opportunities for
students, and elevate York County as a hub for culture and creativity. Together, the partners will
explore new academic pathways, experiential learning opportunities, and joint programming that
connects education with real-world practice.
“At York College, we see the arts as a powerful way to bring people together,
” said York College
President Thomas Burns. Ph.D.
“This partnership is about giving our students meaningful,
hands-on experiences while also investing in the creative energy that makes our community
such a special place.
”
The agreement outlines plans to develop educational programming in the visual and performing
arts, including the exploration of a new theater minor program at the College rooted in real-world
training. DreamWrights will serve as a living laboratory for students interested in performance,
technical theater, arts management, and community engagement, while offering expanded
opportunities for internships, practicums, and volunteer service.
"We are so pleased and honored to enter into this partnership with York College of
Pennsylvania,
”said Eric Miller, Executive Director of DreamWrights.
“Working together with the
college and other local arts organizations, we can increase awareness of York as a vital center
for the arts. We are pleased to be able to offer practical theater experience for students as well
as new arts opportunities at DreamWrights and on campus for the whole community. We
developed this partnership because we are aware of all the talent and resources that we havewhich are not yet being fully realized. We are looking forward to all the things we can create
together!"
York Country Day School’s involvement further strengthens the partnership by creating
pathways that connect arts education from elementary school through college and into the
broader community.
“The arts are such an important part of how students learn to think creatively and engage with
the world around them,
” said Doug Key, Head of School at York Country Day School.
“Working
alongside York College and DreamWrights opens up exciting opportunities for our students to
grow as artists, learners, and community members.
”
As part of the agreement, York College, YCDS, and DreamWrights will share the use of their
facilities, outreach, and joint efforts to increase community access to shows. Through this
partnership, York College, DreamWrights, and York Country Day School aim to foster a more
vibrant, inclusive, and creatively engaged York community, one where the arts continue to play a
central role in education and everyday life.
