Martin Library Honors Jackie Summers
The Martin Library Honors Committee will recognize Jackie Summers as its 50th Honoree during an upcoming ceremony and reception. The event will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Martin Library in York. Individuals interested in attending should register at donate.yorklibraries.org by Thursday, April 10.
"It is fitting that Jackie is our 50th Martin Library Honoree. She regards libraries as essential components of our communities; offering gateways to knowledge, learning, and personal growth,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Jackie has served as board chair for both Martin Library and York County Libraries. We are grateful for her many years ofexceptional leadership and her championship of our libraries’ vital role in York County.”
The honors ceremony will feature tributes to Summers by several guest speakers. They include former York County Libraries President Trish Calvani; Investment Real Estate, LLC Chief of Staff Mary Beth Ching; Dynamic Family Narratives President Albert Blakely; and Retired,WellSpan Health Financial Executive Chrysta Stine.
Summers served as president of Junior Achievement of South-Central Pennsylvania and recently retired as senior director of Development & Corporate Engagement for Penn-Mar Human Services. She has received multiple awards including the York County Economic Alliance 2024 Athena Leadership Award, and the Junior Achievement Lifetime Achievement Award. Additional recognition includes the Central Penn Business Journal Women of Influence – Circle of Excellence Award; the Southern Community Services Volunteer of the Year Award; and the New Freedom Lions Club Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication.
A key component of the Martin Honors event is establishing a perpetual fund to purchase books in the honoree's name. Contributions are welcome by donating securely online at donate.yorklibraries.org or by mail to Martin Library Honors Fund, 159 East Market Street, York, PA 17401. The Martin Library Honors Committee is chaired by Lori Rene Weyant, with members Robert Cox, Liz Dellinger, Robert F. Lambert, Donna Pullo, Kelley Gibson, Patrick Ball, and honorary member Lynne Danyo.
Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County's oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. Located at 159 E. Market Street in the City of York, it is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members. Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
