History made! Spartans Field Hockey Goalie named Player of the Year

The York College of Pennsylvania field hockey squad made program history Thursday as senior goalie Belle Fields was named Player of the Year for Region V in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Fields is the first Spartan in program history to earn the regional accolade. She was named first-team All-Region V last week.

Fields had a fantastic season, leading York to its first MAC Commonwealth championship. The Spartans also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year.

Fields capped her outstanding Spartan run with a record of 17-6 with a school record 13 shutouts. Her 17 wins, save percentage, and shutouts are all single-season school records.
Spartan head coach Katie Fost is thrilled to see Fields earn the regional Player of the Year Award.

“Belle being named the Region V Player of the Year is a testament to not only Belle and the dedication to her craft, but to the entire program and the development of York Field Hockey over the past three seasons,” said Fost. “She has been disciplined, competitive, willing to learn and make changes, and is a steady, calm presence in the defensive circle. Her ability in the cage is a combination of instinct and the development of patience. Belle has not only had one standout season, she has had three and has left an extraordinary mark in our program.”

Fields finishes her time with the Spartans with 71 games played, including 65 starts, 3,963 minutes and 29 seconds played, a record of 48-17, and 30 shutouts. Fost believes the award is a testament to Fields’ work ethic and greatness.

“It’s clear from the program and single-season records that she has set that she is the best to ever be between the posts as a Spartan,” Fost said. “However, it continues to be highlighted, especially with this award, that Belle is one of the very best in the country. We are so fortunate to not only have one of the top goalies in the country, but that we have had the opportunity to work with such an incredible person. We can’t wait to see what trail she blazes next!”
