At 10:30 am on September 3rd, 2025, the York City Police Department invites you to join them at the police station, 50 W King St, to celebrate the opening of York City Police Department’s newest asset: The Outdoor Waiting Area/Pocket Park. Featuring a Topsy Turvy Spinner and multiple seating areas, the park is bordered by several interactive play panels and monitored by cameras (viewable by parents and department personnel) to provide peace of mind to families visiting the Police Department for various reasons and services.
A pocket park is a small outdoor area, strategically inserted to provide recreation and relaxation in otherwise landlocked neighborhoods. Another first of its kind idea, the Department’s new space will do just that, serving as a resource to our neighbors in the Downtown/Center City area, and an outdoor waiting space for our Officers, our Customers, and the Community as a whole.
The park will provide a safe meeting space for community engagement, enhancing the Department (making the building more welcoming), and creating a much needed "positive distraction" for children who have to accompany their parents when making reports, statements, or follow-up investigations.
We are truly excited to partner with all the stakeholders who made this venture possible; as this park will forever represent thoughtful "Community Policing", and this Department’s continuing attempts to serve families, protect children, and build relationship with the City we swore to uphold.
All are welcome to enjoy it.
