York County Libraries will temporarily shift to pickup and online services only from Monday, December 21, 2020 through Sunday, January 10, 2021.  Browsing will resume on Monday, January 11, 2021.  “We are making this temporary service change in response to the significant increase of COVID-19 cases in York County,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Throughout our phased reopening plan, we have been taking extra measures to provide our staff and members with a safe and healthy library environment.  The current health climate dictates that we take our safety measures a step further.”

During the three-week service shift, YCL members can place holds on library materials online at yorklibraries.org or by phoning their local library.  The library will then notify members when materials are ready for pickup.  Depending on the library location, pickup can be in the library’s lobby, on the porch or curbside.

YCL is following the guidelines of the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, the Governor, the PA Health Department, and the CDC.  Masks and social distancing are required when picking up materials.   Visitors, age two and older, are required to wear masks or appropriate face coverings.   Anyone who is unable to wear a mask, should contact their library to discuss alternative service options.

Members can continue using library book drops to return borrowed materials.  As part of YCL’s material quarantine process, returned items remain on member records for ten days.  Any fines accrued during that time will be reversed.   Members with health issues who are unable to return materials by the due date should contact their library for accommodations.

“During this time, I want to encourage community members to explore our online services,” says Lambert.  “YCL cardholders have access to over 80,000 digital books, audiobooks, music, comics and movies for free.  We also offer digital story times, online book discussions and 80 electronic databases.”  All are available for free with a York County Libraries card.  Community members without a card are invited to request one at no cost at yorklibraries.org.

York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and electronic information, best sellers, story times, book discussions, programs and educational resources.  For more information about library locations, operating hours, and current service offerings, go to open.yorklibraries.org.
