The York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) was recently recognized by the Senate of Pennsylvania on their 30th Anniversary.  The congratulatory citation was awarded to YCAL on September 19th by Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill at the conclusion of their Annual Meeting & Recognition Reception, held at York College of Pennsylvania.

YCAL’s history traces back to the 1989 when local business leaders Tom Wolf (The Wolf Organization) and William Simpson (Pfaltzgraff) helped found The York County Business Education Partnership.  This organization sought to increase the quality and support for education in York County through partnerships with schools and businesses.  Over time this organization expanded and merged with similar organizations and programs such as The First Capital Compact and the School to Work Program to form The York County Alliance for Learning in December 2000.

Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill stated that “I have personally seen the incredible impact YCAL has made with teachers in the workplace, as well as opening doors to connect students with future careers.  The greater York community has benefited immensely over these last three decades due to the hard work and innovative thinking of YCAL.”

YCAL connects educators and employers to engage students in various career development activities to help drive the workforce.  YCAL currently offers 40 different Career Exploration Programs as well as Pre-Apprenticeship programs in Construction, Electrical, and Manufacturing to local high school students.  YCAL also offers educator enrichment programs such as the Career Education and Work Standards Symposium and Educator in the Workplace.  For more information on YCAL programs and to learn how you can get involved with supporting these programs, please visit www.ycal.us.
