York College Students, Community to Honor Veterans with Campus Flag Display

YORK, Pa.

– In honor of Veterans Day, members of the York College community will plant more

than 200 American flags across campus on Tuesday, November 11, as a tribute to those who

have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Beginning at 7 a.m., a group of approximately 10 York College students, faculty, staff, and

alumni will volunteer their time to place the flags in clusters throughout campus. The main

display will be centered around the College’s front campus fountain, a landmark recognized by

many students and alumni.

The effort is organized by the College’s Military and Veterans Advocacy Committee (MVAC) and

supported by volunteers through the Spartan Volunteer Network.

“This display is a simple yet powerful way for our campus to show gratitude to those who

have served,

” said Katie Schwienteck, a member of MVAC who is helping coordinate the

project.

“By coming together early in the morning to plant each flag, we’re reminding

ourselves and others of the many sacrifices made by veterans and their families. It’s a

visible, heartfelt thank-you from our entire community.

Media are invited to take photos and video of the flag display and are welcome to request

interviews with organizers.

To ensure access and coordination with Campus Safety, media planning to cover the event are

asked to notify Director of Communications Julie Loeper by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 10.
