UPMC Pinnacle Foundation Releases Over $14 MILLION in 2021

The UPMC Pinnacle Foundation released $14,550,452.70 in funding and grants to UPMC in Central Pa. programs, external partners, and community services in 2021.

“The pandemic continues to place challenges on those in our community,” said Jessica Ritchie, vice president of development, UPMC Pinnacle Foundation. “Our generous donors through Central Pa. play a huge role in making our work possible. Without them, we would not be able to support these vital services.”

UPMC Pinnacle Foundation staff work in conjunction with their volunteer board, led by board chair Julie Trogner, to coordinate charitable giving that supports community benefit, education programs, workforce development, and resources throughout UPMC in Central Pa.

Programs supported in 2021 include:

  • Addiction Recovery Services, UPMC in Central Pa’s Mobile Health Service helps patients overcome addiction challenges in areas that lack medication-assisted treatment. “This mobile unit allows us to timely address changing treatment needs and diminishes the transportation barrier for our patients living and working in rural areas,” said Greg Swartzentruber, M.D., UPMC Harrisburg.
  • Diversifying Doulas, a program “Patients R Waiting”, is dedicated to improving maternity outcomes for Black and Latinx birthing persons in Lancaster County. They actively recruit and train individuals to become certified doulas, and place pregnant women of color with an experienced labor and support person before, during, and after childbirth free of charge.
  • Social Services, which supports patients in need with resources including transportation, medications, and durable medical equipment needed to successfully and safely go home from the hospital. Funding for this program assists in recovery and helps to reduce readmissions.
  • Employee Engagement, a new initiative, Appreciate Great, gave over 10,600 deserving UPMC Central Pa. staff in both clinical and non-clinical settings the chance to receive tokens of appreciation or engage in fun and relaxing activities from puppy-hugging and picnics to chair massages and crafting parties. “We really felt appreciated, during hard times like this little things can really go a long way,” said Megan Tate, office manager, UPMC Pediatrics, Shippensburg.
  • Central PA Food Bank donations, to help support thousands facing food insecurity in Central Pennsylvania. "UPMC Pinnacle Foundation’s $100,000 gift will provide more than 600,000 meals to those in Dauphin, Lancaster, Cumberland, and York Counties, who are still working hard to get back on their feet in the wake of COVID-19,” said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
