UPMC Opens New Primary Care Practice Model with Virtual Primary Care–UPMC
UPMC announced the launch of a new model of primary care that will improve access and convenience for patients. Adults ages 18 and older can schedule appointments with Virtual Primary Care–UPMC for chronic and acute care needs.
Virtual Primary Care–UPMC allows a patient to have a primary care provider (PCP) who can be seen via telehealth for most health care needs. Using a smart phone—or other device with a camera, microphone and internet connection—a patient will make virtual appointments with their provider through the MyPinnacleHealth patient portal.
For patients who need to be seen in person, their PCP will refer them to the Virtual Primary Care–UPMC satellite office that is most convenient for them. Locations are available in Harrisburg, Middletown, Mechanicsburg, Lititz, Lancaster, York and Spring Grove.
“As health care providers, it is important for us to provide care for our patients where, when and how they need it,” said Robert Nielsen, M.D., president, PinnacleHealth Medical Group. “The virtual primary care office will expand convenience and accessibility for those who are not served by the traditional office model.”
Patients can be seen virtually for chronic medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and mental health concerns, as well as acute issues such as sore throat, fever, sinus infection, bladder infection or rash. Those with particularly severe conditions, such as heart failure or diabetes, may benefit from remote patient monitoring devices so that their PCP can more closely monitor their condition and vital signs.
Virtual Primary Care–UPMC operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following providers will split their time between their traditional practices and the new telehealth model:
- Kimberly Lumsden, M.D.
- Angelique McKinney, M.D.
- Heather Morphy, M.D.
- Kathy Daisy, C.R.N.P.
- Stacey Gibson, P.A.-C.
- Alison Gillmen, P.A.-C.
- Christine Hudgins, C.R.N.P.
- Jennifer Marks, C.R.N.P.
