The Y is more than a gym and now is another chance to prove it. Even though its wellness centers and many programs are on pause or being altered, the YMCA of York and York County is still here for the community because of its amazing members, donors, and volunteers.
Thanks to the support of our community, the Y is offering the following services to the community during the most recent shutdown.
Childcare, now EduCare – Caring for children so caregivers can continue to work and provide students with virtual learning resources, allowing them to complete their schoolwork even when unable to go to the classroom. Contact Jennifer Hockensmith at jhockensmith@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
New American Welcome Center – Making sure newcomers to the area make it in their new homes through case management, community building, and referral services. Contact Jose Santiago at jsantiago@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
Southern Community Services - Feeding and clothing families in southern York County out of the W. Dale Brougher Foundation YMCA. Contact Theresa Geroux at tgeroux@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
Food Program - Giving families in York City meals during times of need. Contact Nacole Gaines at ngaines@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
Men’s Residence - Housing over 100 homeless men while providing them with case management services in the residence above the York Branch YMCA. Contact Craig Wolf at cwolf@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
Support for Chronic Disease Prevention - Offering virtual support to people experiencing chronic diseases, such as Parkinson’s Disease and cancer, by keeping participants connected or safely distanced. Contact Heather Moore at hmoore@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.

Virtual Wellness Services - Providing virtual wellness services to all, members or otherwise, free of charge through ecommunications, live classes, and cutting-edge technology. Contact Cori Strathmeyer at cstrathmeyer@yorkcoymca.org to learn more.
A piece of our members’ dues and donations make sure that this work and more is in our community. We’re asking that all of our members stay with us the best that they can and refer anyone who may benefit from our services to the Y.
We know that these times are pushing us all to the limit so we ask that everyone in our Y family first take care of themselves and their loved ones, but, if able, continue to be there for all the people served by the YMCA.
To make a donation to ensure this work goes on, please go to www.yorkcoymca.org and click the donate button or send a gift in to your local branch.

About the Y
The focus of the YMCA is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y engages men, women, and children, regardless of age, income, or background, to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the region’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors. During times of crisis, the community has rallied around the Y, delivering life-changing and essential programs to people in need.
