Santa Light Up York

Martin Library will host Santa and Mrs. Claus as part of this year’s Light Up York festivities on Friday, December 6. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and Santa will be ready to greet children from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. This year, families may take their own photos of their children sharing their holiday wishes. Attendees should use the library’s Queen Street entrance into the Children’s area when arriving at the event.

While waiting to see Santa, families are invited to take a mini trip around the world to learn how people in other countries celebrate the holidays. Library staff members have planned crafts and activities that highlight celebrations in Sweden, the Philippines, Germany, France, Italy, and several other countries. There will also be flags and information about the countries to add to the learning experience.

I’m not sure who is more excited for the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus this year, the library staff or the children,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “What we enjoy most is seeing the smilesof the children and their family members enjoying events like this one. We are delighted to be a part of the Light Up York celebration.”

For families who want to add an act of kindness to their library experience, they are welcome to drop off an unwrapped toy for the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots program. In addition, the library is accepting donations of new or laundered scarves, hats, and gloves for its Warming Tree. The items placed on the tree are available for individuals and families to take what they need to keep warm during the cold winter months.

Martin Library is located at 159 East Market Street in York, PA. Metered parking is free after 5:00 p.m.weekdays with many spaces conveniently located near the library. Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. It is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members.  Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
