Revolution Proud To Be Part of 'Most Exciting Change' in Team History
Revs Officials Say ALPB/MLB Partnership Means the Future of Baseball Starts in York
Judging by the excitement of team officials, you would think the York Revolution had just won its fourth Atlantic League Championship. Instead, the team was part of the groundbreaking announcement made Tuesday by Major League Baseball (MLB): The Majors are going to start crafting baseball’s future at PeoplesBank Park and its fellow Atlantic League ballparks.
Major League Baseball announced Tuesday it had reached a three-year agreement with ALPB, through which MLB will test experimental playing rules and equipment in Atlantic League ballparks beginning this coming season. In addition to installing radar tracking technology that will send data on Atlantic League players directly to MLB teams, the agreement allows MLB to “implement changes to Atlantic League playing rules in order to observe the effects of potential future rule changes and equipment.”
“This is honestly the most exciting change I’ve seen here, and I’ve been here since we started,” said Revolution General Manager John Gibson. “I’m excited to see what MLB tests with us and the results of those tests, including changes that could later be made in Major League ballparks. This is one more of the many reasons to catch Revolution games this season.”
“This agreement is a real testament to the caliber of play on Atlantic League fields and the quality of our personnel at the league and team level,” added Revolution President Eric Menzer. “We are excited for our players, who will benefit from increased exposure to MLB clubs, and for our fans, who I really think are going to get some very, very exciting baseball. We are very proud to be one of only eight teams in the country to be working hand in hand with Major League Baseball to shape the future of the game.”
