York County Libraries Celebrate Poetry Contest Winners

The winners of the annual York County Libraries “A Celebration of Poetry” contest will read their winning entries at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at Martin Library in York.  The celebration event is free and open to the public.  
 
Students from York and Adams County were invited to submit an original poem.  The entries were judged on content, style, and creativityby a panel of local educators and writers. This year’s judges included Carol Clark Williams, Lori Leckrone, JJ Sheffer, Judy Wolfman, Jennifer Nesbitt and Carla Christopher-Waid.   First, second, and third place winners were selected in the following age groups: Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grades 5-6, Grades 7-8, Grades 9-10, and Grades 11-12.  The winning poems will be published on the York County Libraries’ website and in a booklet, which will be added to the library collection.  
 
The student winners are as follows: 
Grades 1-2
First: Lydia Clouser, Newberry Elementary School
Second: Blake Shiflet, Yorkshire Elementary School
Third: Steven Zhang, Yorkshire Elementary School
 
Grades 3-4
First: Molly McDonough, Dallastown Intermediate School
Second: Eden Gracey, Indian Rock Elementary School
Third: Jayvin Barnes, York Academy Regional Charter School
