Pinnacle Health Auxiliary Makes Generous Contribution to Maternity Services at UPMC Pinnacle

$500,000 Donation Honors 130th Anniversary

The Pinnacle Health Auxiliary announced its pledge of $500,000 to the Labor of Love campaign, supporting the expansion of women and babies services at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg.  The Pinnacle Health Foundation launched a $10 million fundraising campaign in September 2018, called A Labor of Love, for the new Hollinger Tower Women and Babies Center at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg.

“At UPMC Pinnacle, we are committed to giving every baby, mother, and family the best experience by providing the highest quality, patient-focused care.  Our new Hollinger Tower enhances all of the services we offer and provides the care environment that providers and patients deserve – from pre-natal through labor, delivery and post-partum care,” said Philip Guarneschelli, president and CEO, UPMC Pinnacle. “We are extremely grateful to the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary for their commitment to this mission.”

The Pinnacle Health Auxiliary chose to announce their pledge during Women’s History Month to recognize its 130-year history of strong women’s leadership.

“Women’s History Month is an annual celebration in March that highlights the contributions of women throughout our history and society,” stated Anita Rash, president of the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary. “Our organization consists of women who have made a distinct impact on the history of health care in this community.”

The Pinnacle Health Auxiliary has supported the needs of the UPMC Pinnacle hospitals and residents of central Pennsylvania for 130 years. From its humble beginnings as the Women’s Aid Society serving Harrisburg Hospital, the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary now serves all of the UPMC Pinnacle campuses.  Nearly 400 women and men are devoted to furthering the system’s mission and helping to preserve the high-quality, compassionate care for which its hospitals and staff members are known.

In addition to raising funds for UPMC Pinnacle, the Auxiliary also provides scholarships for promising students pursuing health care careers, educates local students through its annual Children’s Health Fair and supports and operates the Bailey House—a “home away from home” for patients and families from outside the Harrisburg area.

The official check presentation will be held at the Auxiliary’s 130th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on Sunday, March 30 at the Harrisburg Country Club.
