PAUL SMITH LIBRARY TO HOST HUMAN RIGHTS DAY PANEL DISCUSSION

PAUL SMITH LIBRARY TO HOST HUMAN RIGHTS DAY PANEL DISCUSSION

Shrewsbury, PA – Paul Smith Library of Southern York County will host a panel discussion regarding food insecurity in Southern York County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 8th at the library. Presented in partnership with the Southern York County Rotary Club, the event marks the fourth annual panel discussion hosted in recognition of Human Rights Day.

The theme for this year’s discussion stemmed from community discussions regarding rising rates of inflation and the end of funding for meals in schools. “We believe that every person in our community deserves affordable access to quality nutrition,” said Michele Lefler, director of Paul Smith Library. “Our panelists for this event represent a wide range of community experts including York County officials, representatives from Southeastern and Southern School Districts, and leaders of area food pantries.”

Conversation will focus on food insecurity in the area, how residents can access food if they are experiencing hunger, and how community members can help. A food drive is being conducted in conjunction with the event and collection boxes are available through the end of 2022 at Paul Smith Library of Southern York County, Mason-Dixon Public Library, Mason Dixon Family Restaurant, and New Freedom Restaurant & Coffee Shop. For information about the event, please contact Michele Lefler, library director, at (717) 235-4313 or mlefler@yorklibraries.org.

The December 8th program is a Civic & Social Literacy event. PA Forward defines Civic & Social Literacy as the ability to engage in discourse while remaining respectful of other individuals of varying opinions, to understand the importance of community and engagement which allows individuals to interact with one another in a participatory manner, and to invoke change in an area.
