Paul Smith Library of Southern York County to Honor the Hittie Family

Paul Smith Library of Southern York County to Honor the Hittie Family

Paul Smith Library of Southern York County will honor the Hittie Family during its third annual Honors event and reception at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2. The family, including Jean Hittie, Scott Hittie, and Brad Hittie, will be recognized for their many years of dedicated service to the library and the community. The public is invited to attend the event which will be held at the library. Registration is requested by September 19.

"The Hittie Family has made significant and lasting contributions to the Southern York County community, and we are proud to be able to honor them in this way,” says Michele Lefler, library director for the Paul Smith Library of Southern York County. The library’s recently established Honors event recognizes leaders who make the community a better place to live and learn.

Originally from Somerset County, Jean and late husband, Bob Hittie, moved to New Freedom in 1955. Bob and Jean acquired the local hardware store, evolving into the current Shrewsbury True Value Hardware. Jean worked at the store for more than 40 years; first with Bob, then with her sons, Scott, and Brad. Starting at an early age, the boys worked at the store in their youth and came back to the family business after their college years. Following in Bob’s footsteps, the family continues to be both active in and supportive of the community, including the library. Scott is married to Sheri-Le with one son, and Brad is married to Bonnie with seven children and eleven grandchildren.

The Paul Smith Library Honors ceremony will include commentary by guest speakers who will pay tribute to the Hittie Family. Speakers include library board president George Lavery, family friend Kerry McKnight, and Brad Hittie. A reception will follow their tributes.

A key component of the Paul Smith Library Honors event is to raise funds to continue providing valuable services and programs to the community. Contributions to the Honors Fund are welcome by donating securely online at donate.yorklibraries.org or by mail to the Paul Smith Library Honors Fund, 80 Constitution Avenue, Shrewsbury, PA 17361.
