Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Celebrates National Library Week with Gold Star Achievement

College becomes one of only two academic libraries in Pennsylvania to achieve PA Forward Gold Star status

Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, the area’s preeminent institution for the health care field, today announced its Seraph Foundation Learning Commons is now a PA Forward Gold Star library. PA College will celebrate National Library Week with this recognition from the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) as a leading academic library in Pennsylvania.

PA College is one of only two academic libraries in the state to receive PA Forward Gold Star status and serves as a model for other academic institutions to implement program initiatives. The PA Forward Star Program recognizes libraries that are committed to advancing the organization’s ideals through five types of literacy, including basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial literacy. PA College has earned the highest award, the gold star, for its dedication to PA Forward’s initiatives and programs.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a Gold Star library,” said Christina Steffy, director of library services at Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. “The Gold Star designation is a testament to our dedication to support our community through literacy programs and opportunities for growth. The five PA Forward literacies have been instrumental to the development of our library, and we are proud to lead our college with these ideals.”

The PA Forward initiative drives the Learning Commons to continuously develop new programs to improve the quality of student life both during their time at the college and beyond. These new programs include Money Smart Week programming, MyHealthyLiving Workshops and Civic Engagement and Health Care.

“We are excited to be a part of this initiative and help move Pennsylvania forward,” said Dr. Mary Grace Simcox, president of Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences. “Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is committed to providing practical and quality resources to our students for their greater professional development. Our library staff should be proud of their outstanding efforts to support the PA College community.”
