Five Law Students Join Barley Snyder as Summer Associates
All five have now started at the firm and will travel to different offices throughout our footprint this summer to learn from our attorneys and professionals, receiving hands-on experience with the day-to-day and long-term responsibilities of an attorney.
This marks one of largest classes of summer associates Barley Snyder has ever hired, as the firm’s commitment to attorney development increases as it grows.
“Our summer associate program is both a recruiting process and an opportunity for community outreach,” Barley Snyder managing partner Jeff Lobach said. “Our summer associates often have local ties. Not only is our program a great source of future lawyers for the firm, but we receive valuable work from the summer associates while they are with us. Also, we send these students back to their law schools with a better understanding of what will be expected of them in their careers which places them on a better footing to provide immediate help to their employers when they graduate. That symbiotic relationship can only improve the law profession as a whole.”
The five summer associates at Barley Snyder in 2019 are:
Eric Ondo: A Lebanon County native, Eric will enter his third year at Penn State Law in the fall. He graduated from Dickinson College and has already worked an externship at the Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel in 2018.
Katelyn E. Rohrbaugh: During her undergraduate time at West Chester University, Katelyn studied abroad in London in the spring of 2015 with the Criminal Justice Department of West Chester University. The Lititz native starts her third year at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law in the fall.
Adam Rutter: Adam recently completed his first year at Penn State Law, where he is also working toward an MBA. The York native served on the board of directors of the Daily Collegian from 2017 to 2019, starting during his undergraduate time at Penn State.
Benjamin Sheppard: After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 2018 with a double major in history and political science, Benjamin enrolled in George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. The Mechanicsburg native has spent the last two summers working in Harrisburg-area law offices.
Peter Yingst: The Hanover native started his legal career as a paralegal in Washington, D.C., before enrolling at Temple University Beasley School of Law. A four-year member of the Dickinson College varsity basketball team, Yingst is entering his third year of law school.
“The work assignments they are given as summer associates are exactly like the assignments they would receive as first-year associates,” said Barley Snyder partner Derek Dissinger, who is in charge of the program. “That means the transition from student to associate is smooth, and they can be prepared to contribute immediately after they graduate law school.”
Barley Snyder’s Summer Associate Program is designed to help the participants learn about life within the firm and also allows the opportunity to accompany our attorneys to depositions, client meetings and court appearances. The nearly 100 lawyers at the firm are encouraged to participate in the program, giving aspiring attorneys the opportunity to work with one of the most diverse and experienced staff of attorneys in all of central Pennsylvania.
Resumes for summer associates must be received no later than Aug. 1 for consideration for the following summer. To apply, submit your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject “Summer Associate Program.”
