January 23, 2019
In partnership with Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, the Byrnes Health Education Center has announced three upcoming community night events that will focus on drug prevention.
“Drugs 101: What Parents Need to Know®” seeks to educate parents about the various forms of drugs and the peer pressures facing students to use them.  A mock bedroom serves as the backdrop to this two-hour presentation.  Parents will enter a mock bedroom that has been set up to resemble a potential drug user’s room which includes drug and alcohol paraphernalia that parents will be asked to identify.  Throughout the presentation, more than 80 trendy drug and alcohol indicators will be unveiled to show how some adolescents hide drug and alcohol use from their parents.
Three dates and locations have been announced.  Each event will take place from 6PM-8PM and will offer free child care for those parents who are attending.

-    Thursday, March 21, Byrnes Health Education Center, 515 South George Street, York PA 17401
-    Thursday, March 28, Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, 65 Billerbeck Street, New Oxford PA 17350
-    Wednesday, April 3, Franklin Learning Center, 2397 Loop Road, Chambersburg PA 17202

As the battle with the opioid epidemic locally, regionally and nationally continues, prevention and education is key.  Throughout the program “live” role playing demonstrations will occur to help parents initiate conversations with their child/children and to also show parents ways that they can help their child beat peer pressure.  Admission is free for each event.  Pre-registration is required.  Please visit https://goo.gl/forms/Bhlu2ycgllwXdFcM2 to complete your online registration today.
