Job purpose                                                                                                                                                                   

We’re currently looking for a Data Science intern to help with technology-based solutions, ad-hoc statistical data analysis, database creation/maintenance, and communication of results following the execution of those strategies through discussion at seminars,
manuscripts or via presentation at conferences. Our ideal candidate is flexible, committed to innovation & sustainability, and is ready to work closely with a highly diverse and flexible team.

Duties and responsibilities                                                                                                                                  

  • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods and enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Intern shall have their own specific project contributing to the continuous improvement of the company processes
  • Retrieve, cleanse and synthesize data in a format that is useful for analysis or derivation of insight.
  • Implement strategies for projection and calibration.
  • Validate and analyze data sets, identifying patterns, trends and issues.
  • Summarize and communicate your findings, supporting interpretation of the data.

  • Collaborate with other NPD groups, particularly in defining and applying standards and practices for data operations, analysis, classification and quality. Document processes and workflows.

Desired Qualifications                                                                                                                                            

  • Education – GED at the least, some college or BS preferred.
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Other characteristics such as personal characteristics – Honest, innovative, committed to sustainability, dedicated.
  • Strong skills in statistical analyses with abilities in advanced data management and statistical programming using Python, R, Java, and/or other languages desirable.
  • Experience processing, filtering and presenting large quantities of data.
  • Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Snowflake) desirable.
  • Professional Certification – At least 60 college credits obtained or an associate’s degree/equivalent. Specifically, relevant coursework related to statistical analysis or database creation/maintenance.
  • Experience – past experience in a laboratory, performing either chemical or biological experiments. Past experience with research. Past experience with statistics or data analysis. Previous project intern experience preferred.

Physical requirements                                                                                                                                             

Able to lift at least 50lbs or more. Read and write English on an advanced or proficient level. Able to work on projects independently.

Direct reports                                                                                                                                                               

This position reports directly to the Biotechnology Project Manager.

Expected Compensation                                                                                                                                         

$15 per hour
