Job title Chemistry Intern
Reports to Executive Director of Architecture & Infrastructure
 

Job purpose                                                                                                                                                                   

 
We’re currently looking for a Chemistry intern to help with chemical manufacturing and extraction, laboratory safety and management, research and standardization of different protocols for drug discovery. Our ideal candidate is flexible, committed to innovation & sustainability, and is ready to work closely with a highly diverse and flexible team.
 

Duties and responsibilities                                                                                                                                  

 
  • Conducts all chemical extractions/validations
    • Creates SOPs for different extractions and validation methods
    • Keeps track of lab data inside of a notebook and creates an online version to track as well
  • Research
    • Researching chemical fingerprints
    • Researching organic chemistry extractions
    • Researching Synthetic chemistry
  • Submits quarterly project reviews and proposals
  • Design, plan and execute multi-step organic synthesis and purification of high-quality target molecules for biological screening.
  • Participate in brainstorming and contribute new proposals and ideas.
 
  • Presenting data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental meetings.
 

Desired Qualifications                                                                                                                                            

 
  • Education – GED at the least, some college or BS preferred.
  • Great communication skills
  • Strategic-thinking skills for long-term development plans
  • Proficient Chemistry background
  • Sound knowledge of organic chemistry principles
  • Work efficiently and productively in a highly dynamic team environment
  • Professional Certification – At least 60 college credits obtained or an associate’s degree/equivalent. Specifically, relevant coursework related to statistical analysis or database creation/maintenance.
  • Experience – past experience in a laboratory, performing either chemical or biological experiments. Past experience with research. Past experience with statistics or data analysis. Previous project intern experience preferred.
 
 
 
 

Physical requirements                                                                                                                                             

 
Able to lift at least 50lbs or more. Read and write English on an advanced or proficient level. Able to work on projects independently.
 

Direct reports                                                                                                                                                               

 
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Architecture & Infrastructure.
 

Expected Compensation                                                                                                                                         

 
$15 per hour
