Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

Job Description
Reports to: Director of Development & Communications
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will help build and implement strategies designed to further United Way of York County’s mission, goals, and visibility, including community outreach, Days of Service, volunteer special events, as well as maintaining and growing the volunteer database.  The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator will also develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for volunteers, work closely with each department to identify volunteer needs and roles, and actively engage with local companies to assist them with developing a culture of giving back.  
Key Responsibilities
  • Recruits and connects community members to volunteer opportunities, events and projects.
  • Works with local nonprofits to coordinate their volunteer needs through United Way of York County’s volunteer database.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing & Events Manager to promote volunteer opportunities, events and projects.
  • Collaborates with Resource Development staff to identify date-specific group service projects for campaign company employees.
  • Work with prospective campaign companies to develop a culture of giving.
  • Coordinates large scale volunteer initiatives such as Day of Action, Global Youth Service Day, etc.
  • Cultivates relationships and manages regular communication with local agencies, schools, and nonprofits to maintain project inventory for individual and corporate volunteers.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of Volunteer Appreciation activities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Educational and Other Requirements
  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Emphasis on web based platforms and event planning.
  • Demonstrated reliability and positive work habits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to accommodate evening and weekend scheduling for volunteer events.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Program management skills.
  • Demonstrated database management skills.
  • Fully proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to and the ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Must have $100,000/$300,000 in automobile insurance coverage.
