Your daily responsibilities include

Summary:

The Director of Public Affairs assists in the development and execution of Penn National Gaming's public affairs, government relations, community outreach and strategic communications strategies.

Responsibilities:

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Monitors and actively responds to critical legislative, public relations and regulatory issues impacting Penn National’s interests at the local, state and federal levels.

  • Works with numerous state-based lobbyists and public affairs teams to develop, monitor, and execute the Company’s public affairs and community relations programs. This includes, but is not limited to: legislative analysis, developing campaign strategy, communicating directly with the media and elected officials, and developing testimony, talking points, press releases, and presentations.

  • Develops and maintains strong and effective relationships with Legislators, community leaders and business coalitions.

  • Develops, implements, and manages operational goals and monitor achievements of performance and profit objectives.

  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to Executive Management.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.

To be successful in this position it will require the following skill set

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in Public Affairs, Political Science, Communications, or related field from four-year college or university; five or more years’ experience in the public affairs, communications, or public relations field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Gaming experience and prior experience in political campaign organization preferred.

  • Ability to be politically savvy, diplomatic, adaptable, and able to reprioritize and redirect quickly in a high-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Must have strong problem solving, organizational, analytical, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Must be a self-starter and detailed oriented.

  • Must have technical proficiency and knowledge in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

  • Willingness to travel, often without much advance notice.

  • Ability to write reports, press releases, legislative testimony, media statements and general business correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Legislators, community leaders, media, and the general public.

  • Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

  • Must have the ability to drive results and be proactive when working on tasks.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
