Description:
The Coding Specialist operates as a member of the coding team by maintaining necessary records/charts, scanning documents, etc.

Requirements and Responsibilities:
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
 
Qualifications:
Apprentice:
  • Has completed formal coding training or has obtained their CPC-A.
Level I:
  • Certification as one of the following required:
    • CPC, CIC, COC, CRC, CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT
  • Minimum of one year of experience in coding.
Level II:
  • Certification as one of the following required:
    • CPC, CIC, COC, CRC, CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT
  • Minimum of three years of experience in coding.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize work.
  • Must have proficient computer skills.
  • Have professional and effective communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reviews surgical cards versus operative reports for accurate coding and posts charges for physician services.
  • Codes and bills all hospital on call consults and surgeries for physician services.
  • Reviews, codes and bills the facility charges for OSS ASC in ASC system.
  • Reviews, codes and bills clinic visits (all locations) for physician services and facility charges.
  • Performs chart audits as required for OSS compliance policy.
  • Reviews orthopaedics, pain management, physical therapy subscriptions pertaining to coding, policy and reimbursement changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
