York County Literacy Council is looking for an organized, outgoing, detail oriented, professional Fund Development Director.
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
  • Development Planning-working with the Fund Development Committee design comprehensive development plan (annually) in order to generate financial support for the organization’s mission. Help to set and manage appropriate expectations.
  • Responsible for the Strategic Plan goals relevant to fund development. Translate Strategic Plan goals into achievable fund development steps.
  • Organize, coordinate and direct fundraising events, research and write grant proposals and compile, analyze, maintain, and report on trends in the annual Literacy Empowerment Campaign (LEC). Identify opportunities and challenges and develop strategies to ensure goals are met.
  • Assist with special events and programs’ budgets and provide input on agency annual budget.
  • Develop relationships with donors; organize, meet with and maintain effective communications with current funders while seeking out prospective new donors and working to renew interest of our past donors. Research, identify and cultivate a list of prospective donors including potential major gift donors.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan to inform constituents and identified markets about the mission, vision, and values of the organization, its’ funding priorities, and gift opportunities. Broaden constituents’ understanding of the value the agency provides to the York Community and the value of giving.
  • Acknowledge and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors and appropriate to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Report to constituencies the sources, uses, impact, and management of donated funds in order to preserve and enhance confidence and public trust in the organization.
  • Manage the donor database with focus on accuracy of pertinent information for each donor.  Supervise database associate.
  • Volunteer Engagement and Support-Empower and support volunteers in the fundraising process and related activities in order to expand organizational capacity.
  • Author, edit and/or review public written communications for the organization including annual report and newsletters, blogs, letters, grants proposals and articles in regard to YCLC fundraising efforts.
  • Accountability & Compliance-ensure the agency is in compliance with all reporting requirements and regulations in order to fulfill commitment to accountability and demonstrate transparency.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of fund development activities, plan and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate initiative and work as a team player.
Qualifications (required)
  • Education: BA/BS/BH plus three (3) years’ experience in fund development.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of philanthropy and practice of sophisticated solicitation strategies for engaging donors and procuring major gifts.
  • Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding self, the organization and the not-for-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to create infrastructure, document activities, and define roles.
